• As far as maidens go, this fellow is very well educated and hasn't worked it all out yet and has shown there's something there for the future, in the right jurisdiction. On top of that, he’s a ripping sort!


• Form around him from limited outings to date has been quite solid. Debut race start was in a $42k 1100m Wodonga maiden, finishing 6.4L off Very Torquee. The 2nd horse Tallingas Immortal came out and won at his next 2 outings.


• His 2nd start he stepped up to 1500m at Yarra Glen, showing natural improvement and finishing it off nicely for 4th, beaten 1.96L. The winner, The Better Husband, a 3yo son of Wootton Bassett, then contested the listed Autumn Classic and finished a very respectable 5L off Single Choice. The 2nd horse, Punic War, came out and won at his next outing at Horsham (24/02), the maiden heat before Startyourengine's race 24/02. The 3rd horse, Royal Optimism is a lightly raced son of Frankel who has placed 2 from 4 outings to date.


• Latest run, stepped up to 1800m and loomd like a player on the turn, peaking on his run and finishing it off well enough, but appeared to not get the journey on the day. Margin 5.8L.


• Perfect prospect for maiden hunters out there, who are after a 1400m-1600m prospect who may get further in time. 

Stable notes: "Startyourengine is a very straightforward horse is a lovely physical type. He's beautiful to do anything with. He's very sound good he's got good wind can't fault him and I think he's just found out today that he can't stay. He's probably better suited over the mile and he has a trialled well in blinkers and we haven't put them on yet, so that's a bit of wiggle room there too"
